Detroit Pistons: Cade Cunningham

Cade Cunningham will be a player to watch for the Detroit Pistons against the Milwaukee Bucks

The Bucks aren’t the only team who have missed key players for large portions of the early season. The Pistons welcomed first overall pick, Cade Cunningham, into the lineup for the first time on Saturday after he missed the first four games (and all of the preseason) with an ankle sprain.

He also sat out the game on Sunday as it was the second night of a back-to-back and he was already on a minutes restriction in his first game. That will likely continue against the Bucks as the Pistons are going to be extra cautious with their prized rookie.

He struggled a little bit scoring the ball in his debut, going 1-for-8 and missing all five of his 3-point attempts. He still managed to impact the game in other ways with seven rebounds (two offensive), two assists, and a block, leading him to being the only Pistons starter with a positive plus/minus in that game — their first and only win this season.

Cunningham said after the game that he felt good and his main goal was making sure that his ankle was good to go and could handle everything. He told reporters that he’ll be able to “play free” after getting some of the nerves out of the way.

No matter how many minutes he plays and how he’s shooting the ball, Cunningham presents an interesting set of challenges at his size while being able to handle and pass the ball as well as he can. It’s unlikely the Bucks will have defensive ace Jrue Holiday back for this game so it will be fun to see how head coach Mike Budenholzer looks to stop Cunningham in his limited minutes.
