Giannis Antetokounmpo: 3 insane stats that encapsulate great start
No. 2: Giannis Antetokounmpo’s assist numbers have been fantastic for the Milwaukee Bucks
Another assumption you could make in seeing the lineups he has played with, especially since Khris Middleton went out, is that he may not be racking up assists due to players missing shots or him trying to do too much on his own. That would be incorrect!
We are seeing some of the best passing of Antetokounmpo’s career right now and it has been incredible to watch him create easy buckets for the role players around him. Specifically looking at the stats, he is posting career-highs in assists per game (6.4) and assist rate (38.7). He is 10th in total assists with 51 and 18th in assists per game but is sixth in assist rate. His assist rate is in the 100th percentile among all bigs according to Cleaning the Glass.
Giannis has been getting double-teamed more often now that teams don’t need to worry about Jrue Holiday or Brook Lopez, which led to him wanting more ball movement and off-ball movement from some of the other guys on the team.
He has fought his way around that and has been finding the Bucks’ role players when they do move and they get good looks out of it. Giannis is eighth in total assist points created with 137 and is fifth in secondary assists, showing that with good ball movement, the Bucks can get good shots from 3 and at the basket.
Giannis is arguably the best passer on the team and it is a skill he gets better at every year with more experience in reading different defensive coverages. He’s taken another leap this season passing the ball and has shown he can handle the responsibility of being the lead facilitator with some of his fellow starters sitting out.
