Milwaukee Bucks: 3 worrying stats from Rodney Hood after 14 games
By Lucas Valind
No. 3 – Rodney Hood is averaging 13.3 minutes per game through 14 games for Milwaukee Bucks
Hood has not received a large portion of playing time for the Bucks up to this point. Through 14 games, Hood is averaging just 13.3 minutes per game. That being the case is worrying. Given the team’s current injury situation, it should be expected that Hood would have a much bigger role for the team than he has had to date.
As the rotation currently stands, Hood is averaging fewer minutes this year than Jordan Nwora, Semi Ojeleye, Thanasis Antetokounmpo, and even Justin Robinson. In fact, he is averaging more minutes than just two players in Sandro Mamukelashvili and Georgios Kalaitzakis. Considering that those are Milwaukee’s two rookie second round picks, it says something about Hood and where he currently stands in this shorthanded rotation.
With Hood unable to become a key rotational piece with so many missing options, it’s unlikely that he would be of any importance when the team has all of them back. With such a minimal role already, Hood would presumably become an end-of-the-bench player when Milwaukee returns to full strength. If Hood does become a little-used reserve, then the team might start to throw his name into trade offers as they look to upgrade other positions. Hopefully Hood can turn it around sooner rather than later and this scenario never has to appear.
It has been hard for me to watch Hood fail so far in Milwaukee. I was very excited about this pickup when it was announced. I had hoped that he would be able to find his scoring prowess again, but so far, that has not been what has happened. With the season so young, Hood could still turn it around and be a productive player for the Bucks this season. That outcome is looking very unlikely in the season’s beginning stretch, though.
Only time will tell if Hood can get it together, but his early struggles are worrisome for the Bucks as they are severely shorthanded.
