How will the Milwaukee Bucks defend OKC Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander?

When you talk about the Thunder this season, the conversation starts with their star guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. The Canadian has led the Thunder to a surprising record early in the season, including hitting some big shots against teams like the Lakers.

Gilgeous-Alexander is quickly becoming one of the best scorers in the league and he’s doing so on a team with not many other scoring threats, which means teams are focusing on him and they still can’t contain him. He’s one of my favorite players to watch in the league (and also has a soft spot in my heart as a Canadian) and the Bucks will have their hands full with him.

The 23-year-old struggled in his lone game against the Bucks last season, scoring 16 points on 4-of-13 from the field, but did get to the line and added five assists. However, he can still present some issues for the Bucks defense, especially without Brook Lopez.

Gilgeous-Alexander is great at getting to the rim and is a very good finisher. The Bucks have allowed more shots than they typically do at the rim this season, so there could be a chance for the Thunder point guard to get going. He’s struggled a bit from 3 this season at only 33 percent, so forcing him into settling tough 3-point jumpers or a contested midrange shot instead of letting him get to the rim will be the Bucks’ objective.

They also can’t forget about fellow Canadian (and also has a soft spot in my heart) Lu Dort. Known as a great defender, Dort has averaged over 17 points per game so far this season. He has been great in the midrange and solid at the rim, but another player who has struggled to hit his 3s. Containing the Canadian duo will be the Bucks’ top priority on defense and it won’t be easy.
