3 takeaways from Milwaukee Bucks blowout win over Miami Heat
The Milwaukee Bucks incredible depth shows up once again
Although they were missing as many as five rotation players (six if you want to include Semi Ojeleye), the Bucks depth got them through a game where they desperately needed them to help out their two stars.
Two guys who would typically be on the bench when the team is at full health, Bobby Portis and Pat Connaughton, were incredible all night and helped power the Bucks to their blowout win. It should come as no surprise as those two have been great all season to this point in extended roles as starters (Portis) or in a multitude of different roles (Connaughton).
Portis had a massive double-double performance with 19 points, 16 rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two blocks. It’s his eighth double-double of the season as he continues to prove he can be a long-term solution in the frontcourt for the Bucks. Connaughton had a team-high 23 points (including 7-of-13 from 3-point range) and four rebounds in around 28 minutes of action.
It cannot be overstated how huge these two have been this season for the Bucks, filling in the gaps while some of their key players have missed time at various points with injuries. Tonight may have come against a shorthanded Heat team on the second night of a back-to-back, but it was another game where the Bucks got massive contributions from their depth players that have become key role players and, at times like tonight, key starters.
