Jon Horst has been general manager of the Milwaukee Bucks since 2017.

In his time as general manager, Horst has brought the Bucks to heights rarely seen throughout the history of the franchise. Horst helped to build the team that won Milwaukee’s first championship in 50 years last season.

Even with all of the success that the team has had with Horst, he’s not a name that gets talked a lot about nationally. Whether that be because Milwaukee is considered a small market or for some other reason, Horst deserves more recognition than he has received. Regardless of if he’s a big name or not, here are three moves that prove that Jon Horst is among the NBA’s best executives.

Trading for Grayson Allen proves that Milwaukee Bucks GM Jon Horst is among NBA’s best

The Wisconsin Badgers fans in the state of Wisconsin may have finally forgiven Grayson Allen.

Some were not the happiest about the decision for the team to acquire Allen because of what happened to the Badgers in 2015. Those people likely have been able to put that to the side with Allen’s play so far in Milwaukee.

Allen must have made a major impression on the team during training camp, as they signed him to a contract extension before he ever played a regular season game for the Bucks. That gamble has certainly been rewarding for the Bucks so far.

While it is still early, the decision to trade for and extend Allen has paid dividends for the Bucks early on in the season. Allen is having a career year in Milwaukee, averaging a career-high in virtually every statistical category. As the Bucks have moved towards being at full strength, Allen’s great play has been needed while the team has been shorthanded. If Allen can maintain his early success when the team gets everyone healthy, the acquisition of Allen just might become one of Horst’s greatest steals as general manager of the Bucks.
