As long as the Milwaukee Bucks remain committed to contending, they will always be mindful of what is happening on the NBA’s trade market. The team has certainly not been shy about making several sizeable splashes over the past few seasons, and many are already starting to think about potential targets that would make sense for this iteration of the Bucks. There are few players that would make more sense for this team than Robert Covington.

It seems like the Bucks are already well aware of this as they reportedly tried to land him through trade before the 2020-21 season. At that point in time, he was a member of the Houston Rockets, and the Bucks wanted to pull off a deal for both Covington and P.J. Tucker. Ultimately, they got one of the two, landing Tucker prior to the trade deadline, while the Portland Trail Blazers made a deal for Covington before the season began. Rumors have started swirling that Covington’s short time in Portland might be coming to an end, which should interest Milwaukee.

A slew of contending teams will undoubtedly have an interest in pursuing a Covington trade, and the Bucks should be among them. Though it would be challenging for the defending champions to take on what remains of Covington’s $12.9 million salary this season, that should not deter them from exploring avenues to bring him aboard.

With all that being said, let us take a look at three reasons why the Bucks should target Covington.
