The Milwaukee Bucks’ G-League affiliate, the Wisconsin Herd, have had a remarkable start to their 2021-22 season. Starting 9-3, the Herd have secured the top seed out of the Central Division ahead of the Showcase Cup. Under the direction of coach Chaisson Allen, the Herd are poised for a big showing in the Showcase Cup.

A strong start to the season lands the Wisconsin Herd among G-League’s best ahead of the Showcase Cup

The Herd started the season red hot. After a quick 7-0 start, the Herd secured their spot as one of the G-League’s best. Despite going 2-3 in their last five games, the Herd continued to produce impressive performances. In their final game before the cup, the Herd put up a 131-117 victory over the Iowa Wolves with an impressive performance from Lindell Wigginton. Wigginton put up 30 points, four rebounds, five assists, and a steal in the game to secure the Central Division’s top seed.

Wisconsin currently holds the number one scoring offense in the G-League behind strong offensive players such as Rayjon Tucker, Tremont Waters, and Jalen Lecque. Each player has been crucial to the team, posting averages of 15 points or more. The Herd are a strong defensive team as well. Wenyen Gabriel has shined on the defensive end, posting an average of two blocks per game. He is certainly an intriguing prospect and just got called up to the Brooklyn Nets via a 10-day hardship exception, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

The Herd have been excellent throughout the Showcase Cup qualifiers. As Wisconsin heads into the Cup, they will be poised to make a run at the Championship.

Looking ahead, the Herd will take on the South Bay Lakers in their first game of the Showcase Cup. South Bay has also been red hot to start the season, posting a 9-3 record and the West Division’s top seed. With point guard Mac McClung leading the way in total scoring, the Lakers have fought hard to secure a trip to the Showcase Cup. The Cup will kick off on Sunday, December 19th at 2:00 PM CST on ESPN 2.
