The lunacy in The Athletic’s proposed Larry Nance Jr. trade for Milwaukee Bucks

There is not too much lunacy with the idea of adding Nance to the Bucks, from the champs’ POV, at least. Sure, he might be a bit of an awkward fit offensively, but given his versatility and defense, those issues could be worked out. The potential lunacy with this proposal may come in the trade package and Portland’s willingness to accept such a deal.

Considering that the Blazers just traded away one of their first round picks and Derrick Jones Jr. to acquire Nance last offseason, they may not want to deal him so quickly. Furthermore, if they were, they would likely want some form of draft capital in return, which is not included in this proposed trade. That may make them hesitant, as there are surely other teams out that could include a pick and create a more enticing package.

Sticking with the package, it is questionable if Portland would want the players being proposed, as also highlighted in the breakdown of a hypothetical Robert Covington trade. The Blazers already have a handful of guards, including Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum, Normal Powell, and budding star Anfernee Simons. Adding three more guards like DiVincenzo, Hill, and Hood into the mix could be the perfect recipe to create a logjam in Portland’s backcourt. With no draft picks attacked, that is even more reason to believe that the Blazers would pass on this package.
