The Milwaukee Bucks should monitor Dennis Schröder in the buyout market following Pat Connaughton’s injury

In addition to Connaughton being out, George Hill has been sidelined for the Bucks over the past few games due to neck soreness. It looks like the point guard could continue to miss time, which makes the need for a backup floor general apparent. With Milwaukee’s two leading bench scorers sidelined, the Bucks should make a run at Dennis Schröder if he hits the buyout market.

The Bucks were consistently linked to Schröder in trade rumors leading up to the deadline before the Boston Celtics traded the guard to the Houston Rockets. While they missed out on trading for him, the Bucks might get another shot to acquire the guard if he is bought out. Given the Rockets’ current timeline and emphasis on youth, Schröder does not fit with them, and he might be bought out to join a contender. In that case, he would be a great fit for the Bucks.

The former Sixth Man of the Year runner-up was having a decent season in Boston by averaging 14.4 points and 4.2 assists per game. Production like that could help Milwaukee’s bench mightily with Connaughton and Hill out of the lineup for now. Though he does not fill the void defensively, the Bucks will be needing someone to score and facilitate off the bench, and there are few players potentially going to be available on the market better than Schröder.

Given their interest in trading for him, the Bucks could very well make a pitch to him if he hits the buyout market and looks to join a contender. Another former player under Budenholzer, Schröder could be just what the Bucks need right now to bolster their shorthanded bench brigade.
