5 X-Factors Down the Stretch for the Milwaukee Bucks – #2: Jevon Carter

With George Hill still sidelined with a neck injury, the Milwaukee Bucks backup point guard has been a bit of a revolving door. However, it seems now that the Bucks have settled on Jevon Carter for the role, and he is starting to fill in very nicely where others have been underwhelming. Though no one should expect Carter to light the world on fire, he has found ways to be effective.

One of the ways is his 3-point shooting. Since joining the Bucks, Carter has shot 10-of-19 on his 3-point shots (52.6 percent). Another way Carter is helping the team is by taking care of the ball. In seven games since joining the Bucks as their backup point guard, Carter has only registered two turnovers. Not only is Carter taking care of the ball, but in back-to-back games against the Phoenix Suns and Oklahoma City Thunder, he dished out four assists. Four assists isn’t a ton, but for a backup to come in and be able to contribute that to the Milwaukee Bucks, who are currently 18th in assists per game, even a little bit helps.

While his impact offensively has been helpful, that isn’t even what caught the eye of his new teammates and coaches when he joined the team. Coach Budenholzer had more positive things to say about Carter in the postgame after beating the Hawks, mentioning his 3-point makes and talking about him being able to give Jrue Holiday a break during games, and saying that Carter has the ability to help change games with his defense.

If Jevon Carter continues doing what he is doing, he may find himself locked in as the backup point guard even when George Hill is healthy and entrench himself in the playoff rotation.
