3 keys for the Milwaukee Bucks starting road trip vs Golden State Warriors
Grayson Allen has been finding more ways to contribute for the Milwaukee Bucks lately
There’s been a lot made about how Grayson Allen hadn’t yet found his footing with the Milwaukee Bucks when he shared the floor with the big three. When they were out, naturally his role would increase and he’d thrive.
But when he’s been asked to simply be a spot-up shooter or come off of screens, he hasn’t been as effective. One of the reasons I liked the idea of having both DiVincenzo and Allen was that even when DiVincenzo’s shot wasn’t falling, he was filling the gaps in other areas.
In the last few games, we’re seeing more from Allen in other areas that aren’t just shooting.
An example of this is the win over the Miami Heat. Allen only had nine points, but three of those baskets came inside the arc. Nearly 63 percent of Allen’s made shots are 3s, but in that game, he pivoted to scoring in other ways.
He also grabbed seven rebounds, his first five-plus rebound game since the beginning of February. That game in February was also his last five-plus assist game… until the win over the Phoenix Suns where he had six assists along with 10 points.
Against the Atlanta Hawks, he did a little bit of everything with three made 3s, five rebounds, three assists, and a steal.
He’s shown flashes of being able to fill other areas of need like generating rim pressure or helping out on the glass or being a secondary playmaker, but it hasn’t happened consistently when he’s not getting a ton of touches.
Allen had 15 points (three 3s, three 2s), five rebounds, two steals, and a block against the Warriors in January, but Holiday did miss that game. Here’s hoping Allen can bring that mentality from the last few games with him on this road trip.
The Bucks have handled their tests well so far in their difficult schedule down the stretch and tonight will be yet another for the defending champs.
