The Milwaukee Bucks have one of the best in the business with assistant coach Darvin Ham, and opposing teams have taken notice. With head coaching positions league-wide opening up, several teams have already expressed interest in adding Ham to be the voice of their franchise, and a new team has been added to the list as of Tuesday morning.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Ham is among the candidates being considered for the current opening for the Charlotte Hornets. Along with Ham, other coaches that will be interviewed are Golden State Warriors assistant Kenny Atkinson, Dallas Mavericks assistant Sean Sweeney, and two-time NBA Coach of the Year Mike D’Antoni. The Hornets are looking for their new coach after they fired James Borrego in April following back-to-back Play-In losses during four seasons with the team.

Those are some recognizable names alongside Ham, and it will be interesting to see how things pan out, as Charlotte could be a fascinating destination for Milwaukee’s top assistant coach.

At this point, it would be a surprise if Ham was not mentioned as a potential candidate when teams announce who they will be interviewing for their head coaching position. He has already been linked to the job for both the Sacramento Kings and the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason, and more names are bound to surface as the weeks go on. While it appears Ham will not get the Kings job as he was not among the three rumored finalists, the Lakers job is still an option.

While the Lakers could be interesting as they are built for the moment with two reputable stars in LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the Hornets could also be a great spot for Ham. Charlotte has a star in the making in LaMelo Ball, who is just 20-years-old and one of the youngest All-Stars in league history. With a good mix of youth and established veterans in the mix, the Hornets appear to be building something special, and they need a voice to lead that group. Ham, who has been known as one of the top assistants in the association for years now and is well-respected by players, fits the billing in that regard.

Only time will tell, but this could be an exciting opportunity for Ham if he lands the job. Charlotte has the pieces in place and appears to be a franchise on the rise, and a young coach like Ham fits what they might be looking for as they try and put the pieces together.

For now, Ham will remain on Milwaukee’s sidelines as they are currently locked in a second round matchup with the Boston Celtics. Yet, his name will continue to surface in these coaching rumors, so fans should not be surprised if more teams inquire about his services.

Best of luck, Darvin!
