Ranking the 5 best players drafted 24th overall: #5 – Terry Porter (POR)

You better believe we’re going to kick this off with a former Bucks coach and Milwaukee native in Terry Porter. While it would be cool if the Bucks drafted a future head coach at this spot, we aren’t going to hold Porter’s coaching record (99-116) against him here.

Porter has played the second-most games of anyone drafted 24th overall at 1274 which is fewer than 20 shy of Fisher at 1287. Porter averaged 12.2 points on 57.6 percent true shooting, 3.0 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 1.2 steals in his long career, mostly spent with the Portland Trail Blazers.

In 758 games with the Blazers, Porter averaged 14.9 points on 57.6 percent true shooting, 3.5 rebounds, 7.0 assists, and 1.6 steals.

He was a pretty great shooter regardless of the era at 38.6 percent for his career and was over 40 percent in six seasons but lacked the volume that you’d see today that would have really made him a fun player (2.6 career attempts per game from 3).

He was an All-Star twice and in his best five-year peak, averaged nearly 18 points and 7.5 assists in 405 games (all starts) for those great Blazers teams of the early-to-mid ’90s that got to the Finals twice but lost both appearances.

Give me someone like Porter at number 24 all day.
