Gary Harris could be a wild card free agent target for the Milwaukee Bucks
Following last season’s trade deadline, the Milwaukee Bucks and several other contending teams were keeping an eye on Gary Harris. Rumors were swirling that the guard could have been bought out after not being traded, but the Orland Magic ultimately decided to let him finish out the season with them. Harris will now enter unrestricted free agency following a season and a half in Orlando, and there will be no shortage of teams looking to bring him aboard, the Bucks potentially included.
Harris’ biggest draw is his scoring and shooting ability, having averaged 11.8 points while burying 36.3 percent of his triples in his career. Numbers like that should undoubtedly be desirable for the Bucks, given how much their lack of second unit scoring plagued them throughout the season. Per NBA.com/stats, Milwaukee’s bench ranked 27th in points per contest during the regular season, which ultimately came back to bite them in the postseason. While the guard would not solve these scoring issues by himself, he could certainly provide some assistance for a Bucks’ bench that was without a pulse during the playoffs. Harris would also be another serviceable defender to bring off the bench, which is always a significant bonus when assessing targets.
As he braces for free agency, Harris’ value is incredibly unclear. The two guard is coming off a year where he made an expiring $21 million, and with all due respect, it would be quite shocking to see him ink a deal with similar figures this offseason. Depending on how much Harris is seeking on his next deal, the Bucks should give him a call in free agency. He is still just 27-years-old and could be a sizeable spark offensively in Milwaukee’s second unit, which is something they desperately need to address this offseason.
