Milwaukee Bucks Draft Scouting Report: Dalen Terry – Strengths

Defensive Versatility

Dalen Terry looks like a wing who can be highly versatile on defense and guard several positions. He was named to the Pac-12 All-Defensive team and really shined on that end in college. He has long arms combined with great activity and awareness that really bothers opposing offenses. Terry held opponents to just 31.5 percent from the field last year and 0.72 points per possession, ranking in the 85th percentile, per Synergy. He is good on or off the ball, and projects as a very nice wing defender at the next level who generates a lot of steals.

Playmaking

With good ball handling and feel for the game, Terry is a very good playmaker who can run some point. Per Sports Reference, he had a very high assist rate of 22.1 percent last year and averaged 5.6 assists to just two turnovers per 40 minutes. He can attack and then find open shooters or cutters, and he is good passing out of the pick-and-roll as well. He generated 1.2 points per possession from his pick-and-roll passes, which ranked in the 88th percentile this past season. He definitely has the ability to be a good playmaker and creator for others at the NBA level.

Transition

Terry is someone who loves to get out and run, and he executes in transition extremely well. On his shots and assists in transition combined, he generated 1.63 points per possession, which ranked in the 94th percentile. He is great at turning defense into offense, as he jumps in passing lanes to get steals and then creates a transition opportunity. He brings so much energy and always runs hard up the floor trying to push it, and he either scores effectively or makes the right play.

Shooting Projection

Terry is not a special shooter from the outside, but there are good signs that project him as a solid threat in the NBA. He shot 36.4 percent from three this past season and 37.5 percent on all jump shots, both solid numbers. He is pretty good spotting up and knocking down catch-and-shoot threes, and definitely has shown improvement from his first year in college. He may never be a lethal shooter from outside, but he should be good enough to garner attention from the defense.
