As the Milwaukee Bucks prepare to strengthen their supporting cast around superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, All-Star Khris Middleton, and two-way stud Jrue Holiday this offseason, exploring the market in free agency will be an essential task for general manager Jon Horst and the front office.

On the wish list for the Bucks this summer should be a combo guard, someone that can efficiently become a playmaker and shot maker while being able to play both the point guard and shooting guard positions. Even if Milwaukee re-signs guard Jevon Carter, who will be an unrestricted free agent, adding depth at guard will be important, especially if the Bucks decide to offload George Hill’s $4.0 million expiring contract in favor of saving money on the books.

While Horst mentioned during his offseason press conference that the Bucks will hope to re-sign Carter given his ideal fit with Milwaukee’s system and culture, he also acknowledged that they’ll be hunting for more playmaking and shooting in regard to improving the title-contending roster. Retaining Bobby Portis should be a top priority for the Bucks in free agency but supporting the bench with sufficient combo guard depth will need to be addressed.

Milwaukee Bucks: 3 combo guard free agents to pursue this offseason – 1. Delon Wright

Initially, Delon Wright could be a potential target for the Milwaukee Bucks during free agency. As a productive point guard that can play on or off the ball offensively and defend the perimeter at a high level, the 30-year-old could be a solid fit within Milwaukee’s backcourt.

Wright’s numbers don’t jump out on the stat sheet, but he shot 37.9 percent from 3 and accumulated 1.2 steals per game with the Atlanta Hawks last season. The veteran guard can be an asset on both ends of the floor.

Nevertheless, Wright would have to earn a rotation spot with the Bucks, especially if Carter or Hill returns. Milwaukee may also not be able to satisfy his desired salary due to their lack of flexibility as a luxury tax team.

If Delon Wright is interested in competing for a championship without a clear role though, the Milwaukee Bucks would certainly be a realistic destination for his services.
