Can MarJon Beauchamp be the Milwaukee Bucks’ Version of Herb Jones?
Why does it matter for the Milwaukee Bucks?
To continue to compete in the modern NBA, it is imperative that teams add guys who can play in the pace and space era. As a big wing who can defend up and down positions and execute multiple defensive coverages, Herb Jones is a poster child for the type of player teams are desperate to get their hands on.
In the Bucks’ second round loss to the Celtics last year, Khris Middleton’s absence exposed the Bucks lack of wing depth, especially on defense. Having someone like Herb Jones to fill that gap probably would have swung the series in the Bucks’ favor, and it made Jon Horst’s decision to deal the pick that they could’ve taken Herb with extremely frustrating.
In light of that mistake and the playoff failures, it seems as though the Bucks front office recognized the direction the league is heading by drafting MarJon Beauchamp. He fits that archetypal role of a big wing who can offer the necessary defensive versatility to win come playoff time.
While it might not be a perfect comparison, MarJon Beauchamp will hopefully operate in a similar capacity as Herb Jones did last season for the Pelicans. If he even comes close to that type of impact, it would be fair to say that drafting Beauchamp would be a massive coup for the Bucks.
Stay tuned to see the development of MarJon Beauchamp during his rookie season.
