Takeaways from the Milwaukee Bucks final two Summer League games: Lindell Wigginton impressed mightily
Unfortunately for the Bucks but good for him, Lindell Wigginton likely played his way out of the minimal role the Bucks were planning on giving him this upcoming season. The Dallas Mavericks game in particular was a very good showcase of the value he provides to teams. We know what Wigginton provides as a floor spacing threat, but it was his rim presence that really stood out against the Mavericks. He finished the game with 11 free throws and very easily could have had more given the type of contact he was playing through.
Wigginton is probably not going to have a chance at real rotation minutes with the Bucks given his size and the title ambitions the team has (barring a roster move at the position). That doesn’t mean that he is not NBA caliber, just that he likely isn’t playoff team rotation caliber. That is a very high bar that not many NBA players can say they reach. WILL the Bucks to let Wigginton test the open market to see what teams are willing to offer him contract and rotation wise?? Look for a trade partner? Trade a different point guard like George Hill to clear minutes for Wigginton?
Hopefully, he will find a place that can give him minutes and some contract term. If not, the Bucks will welcome him back as a very overqualified end of the bench player.
