With summer league coming to a close, the Milwaukee Bucks come away with some fresh perspectives as they get ready to turn a new leaf heading into the 2022-2023 season. First round selection Marjon Beauchamp competed in every game for Milwaukee this summer, putting up 12.8 points, 1.0 blocks, and 3.2 rebounds per game. Beauchamp also shot an impressivve 45.8 percent from behind the 3-point line. Summer league usually doesn’t offer much translation into real NBA basketball, but it can help coaches recognize the play styles of their young players. With that and the work ethic the Bucks see in practice, Milwaukee can progress towards developing a role for their up and comers.

At pick 24, Milwaukee fans have high hopes for the tenacious athlete Marjon Beauchamp, this is mainly due to Bucks first round draft flops in recent years and lack of first round picks due to trading for players. That said, there are several reasons to like what Beauchamp can bring to the team this year. Let’s go over what to possibly expect from Marjon in year one for Milwaukee.

Analyzing Marjon Beauchamp’s role with the Milwaukee Bucks: Role/Minutes

You never know what a rookie is going to bring to the table until a few games on an NBA court, but with the current roster Milwaukee has you can expect Beauchamp to play anywhere from 10-15 minutes a game initially. Milwaukee will want to give at least some minutes to their first-round pick, but to earn a guaranteed spot in the rotation, Marjon will have to perform well. Being a wing, Marjon will likely be sitting behind Wesley Matthews in the rotation, but throughout the year I would not be any bit surprised to see that Beauchamp becomes that go to wing defender for us off the bench. Beauchamp sits at 6″6 with a 7″1 wingspan, so that kind of size and length is what likely made Milwaukee excited about Beauchamp going through the scouting process. As of now obviously Matthews holds a higher spot in the rotation, but as a Bucks fan I see the potential Beauchamp can offer for us right away off the bench. As far as offense goes, if Beauchamp proves to be a good shooter, his value already skyrockets being a 3 and D type of player.

Analyzing Marjon Beauchamp’s role with the Milwaukee Bucks: Playmaking

Any type of playmaking Beauchamp can offer helps as well, considering all you are going to see from Matthews on offense is 3-point attempts. For that reason, I think we will see a steady increase in minutes for Beauchamp as the season progresses. Between offense and defense, he has a good chance to offer more than Matthews is able to. Stacking up Beauchamp and Matthews next to each other, it is safe to say Beauchamp’s potential to help us has a chance to be better for the team then sticking with the veteran Matthews. Of course, all of this depends on what we see from Beauchamp to start the year, how he plays defense, the way he fits in offensively and also his chemistry with team. Matthews proved to be one of the team’s best on ball defenders, so that’s one thing that Beauchamp will have to replace if he wants to earn more minutes.

Analyzing Marjon Beauchamp’s role with the Milwaukee Bucks: Projection

I project as the season goes on Marjon becomes a player playing right around 20 minutes a game nightly. His lanky frame and punch of athleticism could just be what Milwaukee has been looking for in their rotation. In general, there are a lot of characteristics to be excited about regarding Beauchamp. His inspirational story and hard work tell you all you need to know about this kid’s motor, he is going to give it everything he’s got every minute he is on the floor. The hope for Beauchamp’s progression over year one is that he performs like the player Milwaukee thought they were selecting on draft night, a young gritty wing who causes disturbance on the defense end and offers a good balance of athleticism and shooting on the other end. There is a lot to be excited with about Beauchamp.
