Takeaways from the Milwaukee Bucks domination of the Warriors: BOBBY PORTIS IS AN ABSOLUTE ANIMAL

I’m sorry for shouting, but not really, Bobby Portis is seriously turning himself into Kevin Garnett offensively. It’s a big name drop for sure but look at Bobby Portis’ per 36 minute numbers this season when compared to Kevin Garnett’s career. Bobby per 36 minutes has a slight edge in points (19.0 to 18.6), a staggering edge in rebounds (14.0 to 10.5) and is on par in nearly every shooting category if not better in some. While I fully acknowledge that Bobby isn’t nearly the defender Garnett was and we’re looking at a 27 game sample size for Bobby, his start to the season cannot be ignored.

Bobby Portis dropped 25 points and 11 rebounds on the Warriors Tuesday night! Golden State had absolutely no answer for him, they put a bigger defender on him and he pulled them away from the hoop and hit mid-range jumpers, a smaller defender and he got to the rim and hit jump hooks and at all points in between grabbing offensive rebounds and scoring off those too. Four of Bobby Board-is’ 11 rebounds were offensive and he turned them into six second chance points.

Bobby Portis was absurdly efficient in this game, contributing massively to the efficiency described on the previous slide. Bobby made 11-of-15 shots and scored at all three levels, in the paint, mid-range, knocked down a 3-pointer and was also 2-for-2 at the free throw line.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is unquestionably the leader of the Milwaukee Bucks, but Bobby Portis is the heart and soul of this team. The energy with which Portis plays is evident every single time he steps on the floor and it shows up in the box score. Tuesday night was Bobby’s 16th double double this season, in 27 games, coming off the bench! Bobby Portis deserves some serious sixth man of the year consideration if he finishes the season with 48 double doubles by having 16 through each third of the season.

Bobby and Giannis are tied for fourth in double doubles trailing only Anthony Davis, Domantas Sabonis and Nikola Jokic, for Bobby Portis to be in that company despite playing 6-8 fewer minutes per game is truly a testament to his work ethic.
