On Monday, January 23, the Milwaukee Bucks finally played with their full roster for the first time all season. Unfortunately, that moment was short-lived as Sixth Man of The Year candidate Bobby Portis suffered what is being reported as a sprained right MCL. ESPN Senior NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted the following:
With Portis out for a minimum of two weeks, The Bucks must find a replacement for a valuable piece who was currently leading the NBA in doubles-doubles off the bench. Here are three 10-day contract candidates that could provide some relief in the frontcourt for the time being.
3 10-day contract candidates the Bucks should consider with Bobby Portis out
Dwight Howard is no stranger to helping a title contender off the bench; look no further than his 2019-2020 championship season with the Los Angeles Lakers. In that season, Howard averaged 7.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, and one blocked shot in just 18 minutes per game. Even at an older age of 37, adding Howard could allow the Bucks to play very big at times and still have great paint defense, even though Howard may not provide the floor spacing that Portis provides on offense.
In October, on the Club Shay Shay Podcast hosted by Shannon Sharpe, Howard spoke about playing with a contender, and he even stated he spoke with the Brooklyn Nets about potentially signing with them to bolster their frontcourt. Adding Dwight Howard could also give some relief to Brook Lopez as well, who is currently averaging 30 minutes per game for the first time since the 2012-2013 season.
