Bucks’ assistant Charles Lee will be a serious candidate for Hawks’ job
By Dalton Sell
The Milwaukee Bucks could potentially be losing one of their top assistant coaches soon.
According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Charles Lee, Milwaukee’s associate head coach, is a “serious candidate” for the Atlanta Hawks’ head coaching vacancy. Atlanta fired Nate McMillan on Tuesday afternoon and is expected to start a coaching search immediately. It is not a surprise that Milwaukee’s top assistant is among Atlanta’s most desirable coaching options.
Bucks’ assistant Charles Lee will be a serious candidate for Hawks’ job
Lee has been up for several head coaching vacancies over the last few off-seasons. The assistant has gone through countless interviews in recent memory, and more are seemingly on the horizon. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Hawks are seeking a coach who knows about player development, accountability, and getting a team into the top ten ranks of offense and defense. Lee could undoubtedly help a team with those three things if given the chance.
Most notably, Lee is known for his involvement with player development. Lee has always been a player’s coach, and guys seem to love him for it. He could be the voice the Hawks need as they look to move forward in what has been a rather turbulent season for them thus far.
If Lee were to leave, he would be the second assistant coach the Bucks have lost within the past calendar year. Of course, Darvin Ham landed a job as the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers in the off-season, which allowed Lee to take the associate head coach mantle. The Bucks may have to pass the torch once again if Lee lands to job in Atlanta. Coach Mike Budenholzer has had plenty of his assistants get new jobs since he took over the Bucks in 2018, and another member of the coaching tree could be on the move very soon.
Best of luck to Charles Lee as he prepares for interviews with the Hawks in the near future for what could be a well-deserved head coaching opportunity in the NBA.
Stay tuned for future updates on Lee’s future with the Milwaukee Bucks and Atlanta Hawks.
