Jevon Carter is quietly having a career year with the Milwaukee Bucks
By Dalton Sell
The backup point guard position has been a revolving door of names for the Milwaukee Bucks over the past few seasons.
From George Hill to D.J. Augustin to Jeff Teague to George Hill once again, Milwaukee has not had a lot of stability. However, the tide may have turned when Jevon Carter came to town last year after receiving a buyout from the Brooklyn Nets. Carter was solid in limited minutes last season, and he was expected to take on a larger role this season after re-signing in the off-season. That has been the case, as the fan favorite has put together a career year with the Bucks thus far.

Carter is the only Buck to have played in all 58 of the team’s games this season. In that timeframe, he has averaged 7.5 points, 2.8 made field goals, 1.6 3-point makes, 2.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and a steal in 22.5 minutes per game. All of those are new career highs for Carter in his five seasons. A big reason for Carter’s success has simply been the opportunity to play. Before this season, his old career-high in minutes was 16.3 per contest. The Bucks have given Carter the most significant role of his career, and he has proven them right to do so.
The guard’s scoring, especially from three, has been tremendous this season. Carter has received the greenest light possible from downtown, which he has not taken for granted. He has looked as confident as ever when it comes to scoring the basketball, whether he is attacking the rim, taking a step-back jumper, or sinking one of his patented pull-up transition 3-pointers. Some may dislike those transition pull-ups from Carter, but when they go in, there is no doubt that it gives the Bucks a big jolt of energy on the offensive end.
Defensively, Carter has continued to pester his opponents, which has been a staple throughout his career. He brings an added intensity to that side of the basketball whenever he steps on the court, which has helped him fit in seamlessly. While he stands at just 6-foot-1, Carter is the living idea of heart over height, as he has never let that deter him on that side of things.
Whether he has started or come off of the bench, Carter has been great for the Bucks in what has been the best season of his career. The Bucks will need Carter to keep his foot on the gas as they look to make a run at another title this season. He will never be a player to make the headlines for his efforts, but everyone in Milwaukee knows how important Carter is to this team.
Stay tuned to see how Carter’s career year continues to unfold.
