Day by day, the list of candidates linked to the Milwaukee Bucks’ head coaching gig grows larger.

A new name was added to the mix on May 14, and it was among the more surprising. According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Bucks plan to interview Mark Jackson for their head coaching gig. Jackson is undeniably an interesting name here, and his inclusion shows that the Bucks truly are exploring everyone on the market right now when it comes to finding their next head coach. At the end of the day, that’s certainly not a bad thing.

Thoughts on the Bucks interviewing Mark Jackson for head coaching job

Jackson’s name has floated around in head coaching searches every off-season for the past few years, but no one has ever fully committed. At the bare minimum, the Bucks will continue the first part of that tradition.

Although he does have prior head coaching experience, having led the Golden State Warriors from 2011-14 – he went 121-109 with a pair of playoff appearances – Jackson has not coached since losing that job. It would be quite a gamble to hire Jackson due to how long he has been away from coaching. There would be questions as to what he would bring to a team nine years after he last coached a team.

As the list currently stands, the main target for the Bucks should be Tyronn Lue. Yahoo! Sport’s NBA insider Jake Fischer reported that the Bucks are keeping an eye on him, as he’s employed by the LA Clippers. He’d be an excellent hire for Milwaukee, but given his employment status, adding him would be far easier said than done.

It will be interesting to see what other prominent names surface in Milwaukee’s coaching search and if Jackson can make any serious waves during his interview. Now, Milwaukee’s list of coaches they are currently looking into includes Jackson, Lue, Charles Lee, Kenny Atkinson, Adrian Griffin, Scott Brooks, James Borrego, and Monty Williams. Do not be surprised if Williams is linked to the Bucks’ opening quickly after he was recently dismissed by the Phoenix Suns.
