The Milwaukee Bucks’ list of potential head coaching candidates has officially reached 10 names after this latest bit of news.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Bucks have received permission from the Suns to interview associate head coach Kevin Young. Wojnarowski notes that the Suns are also expected to interview Young for their coaching job and that the Raptors are also interested. Young is a hot commodity on the coaching market right now, so it’s no surprise to see the Bucks throw their hat into the mix as they continue exploring their options.

Thoughts on the Bucks interviewing Kevin Young for head coaching job

It makes sense that the Bucks would at least like to get an interview in with Young, as he’s been an assistant on one of the top teams in the league over the past few years. Young has been one of Monty Williams’ assistants since 2020 and became his associate head coach in 2021. The Bucks seemingly hold both Williams and Young in high regard, as they are interested in both, with the former potentially being the current favorite for the job.

Young has been coaching since 2006. While he’s never had an NBA coaching job, he has been the leading voice for several G-League teams and has served as an assistant on several NBA teams. It’s been said every single time a potential first-year head coach gets brought up, but it would be a bit of a gamble for the Bucks to hire one. They would likely prefer a coach who has experience at the highest level, which is seemingly why Williams seems to be the current leader for the gig.

Despite his inexperience, interviewing Young is still a justifiable move to see what he could bring to the team if he were hired. At this stage, the team is simply testing the waters.

It’s been a busy day for the Bucks, as they also received permission to interview Chris Quinn of the Miami Heat for their coaching position. More names are bound to surface in what is shaping up to be an incredibly interesting head coaching search in Milwaukee.
