Reaction to the Bucks being expected to officially interview Nick Nurse
By Dalton Sell
From the moment the Milwaukee Bucks fired Mike Budenholzer, many wanted Nick Nurse to be the next head coach of the franchise.
Yet, as the Bucks started to interview candidates, Nurse was not among the first batch of about a dozen or so. It was a bit puzzling, but it seems like the franchise is now preparing to interview the 2019 NBA champion for their vacancy. Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Bucks’ front office is expected to speak with Nurse about the coaching vacancy soon.
Reaction to the Bucks being expected to officially interview Nick Nurse
It would have been baffling had the Bucks not interviewed Nurse for their head coaching opening. He’s in the upper echelon of current head coaches, so the Bucks simply had to at least speak with him about this opening at the bare minimum. With an interview coming, it would not be surprising if Nurse has a legitimate shot at becoming the next voice of this Milwaukee team.
Among all of the candidates the team has been linked to throughout their search thus far, Nurse should be high on their wishlist. He checks off several boxes, including experience and a title to his name. His approach defensively would also fit right in with the Bucks, who have a large handful of quality players on that side of things.
One concern with Nurse is his heavy reliance on starters, which would be quite a change compared to the Budenholzer era. Many also wonder what Nurse might bring to the table offensively, as he’s always been far more defensive-oriented; the Bucks need a maestro offensively in their next head coach. Still, those two attributes should not be the big deterrent here, and Nurse is one of the best coaches in the entire business.
The team will not be alone in their pursuit of Nurse, as the Philadelphia 76ers and Phoenix Suns are also interested, so they may have to act fast if the 2019 champion is indeed their guy. Nurse is a name that will likely be around in this coaching search until the very end, and rightfully so.
