Rumors were swirling that the Milwaukee Bucks were looking to add some former head coaches to Adrian Griffin’s staff, and that has now come to fruition.

According to ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, the Bucks have added long-time head coach Terry Stotts to their coaching staff. James Borrego was also rumored to be on Milwauikee’s radar, but according to Wojnarowski, he will head to New Orleans instead. Regardless, bringing in Stotts is an excellent move by the Milwaukee Bucks.

With Adrian Griffin set to be a first-time head coach, he doesn’t quite know the ropes just yet, so adding a veteran like Terry Stotts to his staff makes complete sense. Stotts has a lengthy resume when it comes to coaching, which includes prior experience as an assistant and head coach of the Bucks. His most notable accomplishment came when he coached the Portland Trail Blazers, where he made the playoffs eight straight times. Stotts could be the veteran voice in Griffin’s ear to help ease him into the swing of things.

As a coach, Stotts is most well-known for the offenses he was able to guide. His Portland teams were typically terrific when it came to scoring; hopefully he can bring some of that to Milwaukee. Over the past few years, one of the Bucks’ biggest issues has been their inability to score the ball when it matters the most. At times, the offense went stagnant for minutes at a time. Stotts will not fix that solely with his presence, but perhaps he could bring some fresh ideas to the table in Milwaukee to keep the wheels turning as much as possible.

All in all, this is a terrific hire for the Bucks. It will be interesting to see what other assistants the team adds to Griffin’s staff before the 2023-24 NBA season, but it would not be surprising if an assortment of other recognizable names follow Stotts to the 414 very soon. The Adrian Griffin era in Milwaukee is off to an exciting start thus far.

Welcome back to Milwaukee, Terry Stotts.
