Inside the Stats: Milwaukee Bucks 2022-23 rebounding numbers

The Milwaukee Bucks last season led the NBA in rebounding with 3,988 rebounds, an average of 48.6 boards per game. That’s two more per game than the Memphis Grizzlies, who were second in the league in this stat.

The Bucks also led the league with 3,074 defensive rebounds and were 11th in the league in offensive rebounds with 914.

The most rebounds in a game for the Bucks in 2022-23 was 73 in a 104-101 overtime win over Toronto on January 4. Just 10 days later, they had their lowest rebounding total of the campaign with 32 in a 111-95 loss to Miami.

This was the fifth straight year that the Bucks led the league in defensive rebounds and the third in their last five years for the team to lead the league in total rebounds, per Basketball-Reference.

·         The 37 games with 50 + rebounds were the most in the NBA last season. Memphis was second on the list with 29 games with 50+ rebounds.

·         The Bucks won their last 22 games when they had 50 or more rebounds (from December 30 until the end of the season).

·         Last season, the Bucks had more rebounds than their opponents in 53 games. The team was 44-9 (.830) in those games. In six games, the two teams had the same number of rebounds (the Bucks were 5-1 in those games), and in the 23 games where the Bucks were outrebounded by their opponents, Milwaukee was 9-14 (.391).

·         Milwaukee had 12 players in 2022-23 that had 100 or more rebounds. It was the sixth time in franchise history that the team had 12 players or more secure 100+ rebounds for the season. The team record for most players with 100+ rebounds in a season is 13. That happened in 2011-12 and in 2013-14.

·         In their five game playoff series versus the Heat, the Bucks outrebounded Miami in three games, going 1-2 in those games. The Bucks lost the two games where they were outrebounded by the Heat. The Bucks were 0-2 in the Heat playoff series when they had under 40 rebounds. That means that for the 2022-23 season, regular season, and playoffs, the Bucks were 1-9 in games when they had fewer than 40 rebounds.
