Bleacher Report guesses who the Bucks’ top free agent target might be
By Dalton Sell
After the frenzy that took place over the first few days, NBA Free Agency has started to go quiet, but the Milwaukee Bucks are not quite done yet.
The Bucks still have several open roster spots and positional needs that must be addressed soon, primarily the backup point guard position. After Jevon Carter inked a three-year deal worth around $20 million with the Chicago Bulls, Milwaukee was left without a legitimate backup.
With Milwaukee’s need for a backup guard apparent, Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley guessed that the Bucks’ current top free agent target is Kendrick Nunn. It’s just a guess by Buckley, but it makes sense for the point-guard-hungry Milwaukee Bucks.

When looking at the remaining point guard market across free agency, there are truly two names that stand out. The first is Kendrick Nunn, and the second is Aaron Holiday. Either would be fine as Milwaukee’s new backup, but Nunn might be the better player, so they could go for him first.
Nunn has had a turbulent career, and he’s only been in the NBA for four years. Throughout his first two years, Nunn was a key piece for the Miami Heat, having averaged 15 points and three assists per game. However, after joining the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020-21, he missed the entire season due to a knee injury. He returned to the lineup this season, but played a minimal role and was then traded to the Washington Wizards at the deadline, where he also saw a small role.
Following this very rough two-year stretch, Nunn will be a reclamation project wherever he goes. He’d make for a fine addition to Milwaukee’s roster, giving them an experienced point guard who is capable of scoring, facilitating, and letting it fly from deep. If that bothersome knee is healed, who knows, perhaps the guard could get back to his Miami form with the proper role. Furthermore, he will not be seeking a hefty deal on the open market. If Nunn is willing to come aboard on a prove-it deal like Malik Beasley recently did, this would be incredibly low risk for the Bucks as they aim to fill a position of need.
If Milwaukee is indeed canvassing the free agent market for a backup point guard, Nunn could be their best bet at this point.
