The Milwaukee Bucks just finished up their five-game Summer League schedule, and there were plenty of takeaways from the action.
There were several standouts, and everyone wanted to see which players turned enough heads to capture a training camp deal to stick around. Well, the first signature has been inked, as Spotrac’s Keith Smith has reported that Jazian Gortman has signed a camp deal with the Milwaukee Bucks.

This was a good decision by the Bucks. Though Gortman didn’t play quite as much as fans might have liked, having averaged 9.1 minutes per contest across five games, he oftentimes showed off glimpses of potential when he did see the court. The 20-year-old looked incredibly confident with the ball in his hands on offense, having hit an array of tough shots while also playing solid defense on the other end of the court. He looked like a player worth taking a flyer on and developing.
It makes sense that the Bucks would like to take a closer look at Gortman, given their current need for a backup point guard. With Jevon Carter going to the Chicago Bulls in NBA Free Agency, there is a gaping hole in Milwaukee’s backcourt right now. So far, the Bucks have not replaced Carter and have just one roster spot left to fill the void ahead of next season. Though Gortman is quite young at 20 years old, he could be a nice developmental piece to learn from and play behind Jrue Holiday.
For now, it seems like Jazian Gortman and Lindell Wigginton will battle it out for the team’s backup point guard duties in training camp. Yet, whether it’s a trade or free agent signing, a move could be made before camp that gives the team a clear-cut backup, but only time will tell on that front. For now, most Bucks fans will be quite happy that the potential-filled Gortman is sticking around.
The Milwaukee Bucks have a very interesting potential backup guard on their hands here.
