A trade rumor the Bucks should get in on – T.J. McConnell’s name is out there

Sticking with backup point guard rumors, another name floating around is Indiana Pacers’ guard T.J. McConnell. According to NBA insider Marc Stein (Subscription required), the aforementioned Suns are expressing interest in McConnell. That doesn’t mean the Pacers will move him, but the Milwaukee Bucks should at least get added to the list of interested teams.

McConnell would be a nice fit for the Bucks’ bench. He’s always been an excellent facilitator, as he has notched five assists per game for his NBA career. On top of that, he’s notched 7.1 points and 1.2 steals per game in that same timeframe, showcasing that he can do a bit of everything when he’s on the court. The Bucks would benefit mightily from adding a player like that.

A lot of what was said about Payne can be said about McConnell when it comes to his fit with the Bucks. He’d be an established backup to bring some added ball-handling to the bench and a great fit alongside Holiday when the Bucks want him to focus up defensively. That type of player could be the ultimate difference-maker for the Milwaukee Bucks.

Financially, McConnell is on the books for $8.7 million this coming season. Anything less than $10 million is very reasonable for Milwaukee, so McConnell is a fine target in that regard. The biggest roadblock is whether or not the Pacers are willing to entertain moving on from McConnell. If not, that obviously would douse water all over this fire. Time will ultimately tell.
