Bucks 2023-24 player profile: Can MarJon Beauchamp take a leap?
In all likelihood, Beauchamp’s sophomore season will be very different from his freshman season. Last year, Coach Budenholzer primarily kept Beauchamp on the bench in favor of his experienced veterans. Now, Coach Griffin, who has a knack for player development, will likely look to get the 22-year-old more involved in the rotation by giving him some quality minutes.
Beauchamp will almost certainly be coming off of the bench as Griffin looks to ease him into the world of being a rotational NBA player. When he’s on the court, Beauchamp will be asked to give the Bucks more strong defense, primarily. He’s one of the team’s taller wing defenders, and the forward should certainly see some time matched up against prominent names.
There will likely be some growing pains on the offensive end for Beauchamp this coming season. It’ll be interesting to see how much work Beauchamp has put in on improving his jump shot this off-season. While he likely will not shoot north of 40 percent, somewhere above 35 percent for the season would be an excellent improvement from last season.
Ultimately, there’s a lot of hype surrounding Beauchamp this coming season in Bucks fan circles, and rightfully so. The Bucks have not had a young player to be excited about in a long time, and a piece like Beauchamp could change that entirely. He’s got the skills and attributes to become an excellent two-way player in this league. Yet, it might not be this year that he reaches that status.
This coming season will likely be a stepping-stone year for Beauchamp as he sees a meaningful role for the first time in his young career. Still, there’s certainly room for him in the rotation, and the wing could become a true mainstay if he takes full advantage of the opportunity.
