Most important role players for the Milwaukee Bucks: Bobby Portis

This is a no-brainer for me putting Bobby Portis as the second most important role player for the Bucks. It’s clear that his performance over the last few years has been vital to the Milwaukee Bucks’ success, both offensively and defensively. He’s been able to overcome some of the early notions that he’s lazy and doesn’t take pride in rebounding the ball. Now, he’s a legitimate Sixth Man of the Year candidate, and he could very well put together a career year in 2023-2024.

It’s obvious what Portis brings to the table, tenacity, toughness, rebounding, defense and scoring. He can do a little bit of everything and can guard a wide variety of positions. Listed as a power forward/center, he’s quick enough to keep up with some small forwards, which allows for his defensive versatility to stretch further for the team. Not to mention, having him as a player who comes off the bench gives that reassurance that if things aren’t clicking for the starters, you can inject Portis’ energy into the game to bring life to the floor. In addition to the impact he brings for the Milwaukee Bucks, he’s coming off a summer where he was competing for Team USA in the FIBA World Cup.

He can carry a lot of confidence with him into the season after competing for the U.S. With that confidence and the continued in-game reps he earned playing this entire summer, it’ll allow him to come back even more ready and prepared for this year. Portis’ impact on both ends of the ball is felt throughout the entire organization, and having his presence on the roster makes the Milwaukee Bucks a much more dangerous team.
