Grading the Milwaukee Bucks’ eye-catching signing of Cameron Payne

The grade on Cameron Payne’s deal with the Milwaukee Bucks
This is a great move by the Milwaukee Bucks front office this late in the NBA off-season.
After trading for a superstar starting point guard in Damian Lillard, the team went out and grabbed a quality backup in Cameron Payne. That means the Bucks can always have a pure point guard on the court if the situation calls for it, which is something they have lacked in recent memory. These two could form one of the best point guard rotations in the league this coming season.
Financially, Payne’s deal is a steal. While he’s not some All-Star, the guard has proven to be a solid backup who can help out a contender. Specifically looking at the Bucks, he’ll fill a major vacancy at that backup point guard slot, giving him a clear-cut role on a nightly basis. Truly, it’s a win-win for both sides, as Payne gets a shot at a title while the Bucks get a nice rotational piece for cheap.
It’s hard to poke very many holes in this signing, given Milwaukee’s need for another ball-handler and the fact that Payne was arguably the best name still left on the market. He could prove to be a steal fairly quickly, but only time will tell how everything transpires. Again, low-risk, high-reward.
