With a contract that only lasts through training camp, Amir Coffey is one of the Milwaukee Bucks with the most to prove over the next few weeks. Understanding the severity of what's at hand, the forward is reportedly turning heads early in training camp. Doc Rivers was the first to point out Coffey's play when speaking to reporters after practice, saying, "Amir Coffey had an unbelievable day today.”

Bucks forward catching attention amid roster crunch

The chip on Coffey's shoulder couldn't be bigger. He knows what's at stake. With a strong showing in training camp, there's a good chance he can cement his spot on this roster. For the Milwaukee Bucks to commit to Coffey, they would have to cut ties with another player to make room. The only way they are doing so is if he dazzles, and so far, it appears he's starting off on the right foot.

It's not surprising to hear that Coffey is catching eyes. Obviously, he's motivated by the situation with his contract, but he's also a great player. With the Milwaukee Bucks needing more bodies on the wing, an energetic, two-way piece like Coffey has all of the tools to fit in with this team, and it sounds like he is fitting right in thus far.

Coffey brings plenty of good things to the table. Offensively, he shot over 40 percent from downtown last season and is capable of pushing the pace, something this team desperately needs. Defensively, he has the height and length to be a versatile, switchable piece. For a team that has spent the last several years seeking adequate wing defenders, one may have fallen right into their lap.

Quietly, Doc Rivers is a believer in Coffey. At media day, the wing talked about how discussions over the summer with Rivers played a significant part in him coming to Milwaukee. Rivers coached Coffey when he was a rookie with the LA Clippers, so the two go way back. They could attempt to take their partnership to a new level if Coffey can earn his place on the roster.

To be clear, one good day won't earn Amir Coffey a standard roster spot. It's a great start, but he must keep his foot on the gas. The next several weeks will be a pivotal period in his NBA career. If he keeps this up, Milwaukee's decision will be easy.
