Answer to Bucks' difficult Tyler Herro decision may come down to Norman Powell

The Pistons may not be interested in Herro if they get Powell.

The Bucks' biggest suitors for Tyler Herro could be the Pistons, but that interest could disappear quickly if Detroit finds a way to get Norman Powell instead. The Pistons' willingness to give up a worthy trade package for Herro will depend on their luck in adding another All-Star guard for cheaper value.

That does make things pretty simple between the Bucks and Herro. If Detroit gets desperate enough to trade big for him, the Bucks should obviously part ways with Herro. But if the Pistons are out of the running for Herro, the Bucks will likely keep him to star the season unless another suitor pops up.

Herro's fate doesn't have to be complicated

Although Herro does create a lot of redundancy on Milwaukee's current roster, there won't really be any harm to keeping him on the team. Since Herro is a fairly versatile offensive player capable of thriving on or off the ball, he can do a good job supporting his younger teammates while the Bucks figure out his future. Herro has always been known as a great shooter and fearless scorer, but his playmaking has also taken a leap forward in recent years.

On the other hand, Herro does have his obvious weaknesses on defense. Earlier in his career, the Heat often found better success with him off the floor because that eliminated one of their defensive weak links. In Milwaukee, he might not be the most obvious liability but his defensive flaws, as a small guard without a great motor, could still hurt the team.

Even with that considered, Herro should make the Bucks better if he suits up for them. Last season, their lack of creation was arguably their biggest weakness and Herro can address that immediately. The offense should flow much better with him in it and his teammates will notice the difference right away.

The Bucks shouldn't hesitate to trade Herro for the right price

At the same time, a Herro trade could occur at any moment if a team comes with a good offer. The Pistons could easily cave to the Bucks' trade demands before the season even starts if all their other attempts at adding more creation get taken off the market. And outside of Detroit, there are other rising teams in need of more creation too.

Some teams are built perfectly to maximize Herro by allowing him to work his magic on offense and hide his flaws on defense. The Bucks aren't necessarily one of those teams, but they can make his value obvious to a team that fits the bill. And that should arguably be Milwaukee's top priority, because Herro's trade return will decide the fate of their rebuild.
