Bucks must avoid nightmarish Anthony Davis trade at all costs

We're going to pretend we didn't hear that.

While there are many of them, Anthony Davis is not the answer to any of the Milwaukee Bucks' problems right now. Yet, on the latest episode of The Zach Lowe Show, the NBA analyst created a pitch that would see the star head to the Bucks following all of the recent chatter in Dallas after the Mavericks fired Nico Harrison, their former general manager.

"The Bucks always seem to pull a rabbit out of a hat. You could make a deal of [Kyle] Kuzma plus Myles Turner plus a first round pick for Anthony Davis."

Anthony Davis doesn't fit with the Milwaukee Bucks

Is Anthony Davis a good player when he's on the court? Absolutely. He's a 10-time All-Star, five-time All-NBA honoree, and a 75th Anniversary honoree for a reason. However, the problem is that he is not on the court much to show it. Injuries have always been Davis' biggest weakness, including this year, as he's been limited to just five games for Dallas in 2025-26.

Currently, he's out of the lineup dealing with a calf strain. That's not something the Bucks want to play around with.

Injuries have been Milwaukee's biggest Achilles heel over the last several years. Khris Middleton was constantly in and out of the lineup, and it plagued the team. Damian Lillard dealt with various injuries in his short time with the franchise. They were so unwilling to wait on his return that they cut him and ate significant dead money to sign Myles Turner.

This team wants to win now, and while a healthy Davis could help, there's no telling if the Bucks will get that particular luxury.

Of course, even if he does play, Davis isn't a perfect fit with the Milwaukee Bucks. Everyone knows that Giannis Antetokounmpo needs floor-spacing big men around him, and Davis isn't that, hitting just 29.5 percent of his career triples. While the two would be elite defensively, they would constantly step on each other's toes offensively and make for a clunky fit, in all likelihood.

Though Davis may be a better player, he's not a better fit than Myles Turner in Milwaukee. Turner is a far superior shooter, as he's shooting 36.8 percent on a career-high 5.7 triple tries per game. That is incredibly valuable to Milwaukee's offensive approach. Turner is no slouch on the defensive side of the ball, either, averaging two blocks per game and providing versatility at every turn.

It's just not worth it for the Milwaukee Bucks. This team could absolutely use a trade, but it should be to address their need for a defensive-minded wing, not an aging star who has a long injury history. A trade for Davis could be the final nail in the coffin that is the Giannis era.
