Could Jamir Watkins really be on the board when the Milwaukee Bucks are on the clock at 47 in the upcoming NBA Draft? If so, they almost certainly wouldn't be able to pass on him. The Florida State product has blossomed into a promising prospect over the past two seasons and will likely hear his name called in the second round of the 2025 NBA Draft.
Jamir Watkins would be a dream pickup for the Milwaukee Bucks
For years, the Milwaukee Bucks have needed athletic wings with legitimate two-way upside. Watkins is exactly that. The 6-foot-7 forward made a name for himself in college as a defensive chess piece, often cycling between guarding just about everyone on the court. Offensively, he showed growth compared to his first two seasons by averaging 17 points and 2.6 assists per game.
Watkins might never be the primary offensive initiator at the NBA level, but he showed in college that he can do a variety of things. Not only can he get to the paint to score for himself, but he can also set up his teammates through pick and rolls or crafty passes. Teams could always use another capable ball-handler in town, and Watkins is that.
Even with his lack of a reliable jumper, shooting 32.5 percent on his college triples, Watkins would be an excellent addition to the Milwaukee Bucks. They need youth, speed, transition play, tough defense, and much more, and Jamir Watkins has it. In today's NBA, athletic Swiss Army Knives are all the rage, so it shouldn't be hard for Watkins to carve out a role.
As an older prospect with four years of college experience, he may have the chops to come in and help any team sooner rather than later, which is especially important for a team like the Bucks.
The Milwaukee Bucks are clearly aware of all of this, as Watkins himself said during a recent episode of League Him that he has worked out for them. He specifically noted that he shot the long ball well during that workout. If he can really get a feel for that jumper and sink them consistently at the next level, he'd be a seamless fit with teams like Milwaukee.
Of course, all of these things are reasons why Watkins may very well be off the board when the Bucks are slated to pick 47th overall. However, you can never say never.
