If rumors end up proving true and the Memphis Grizzlies do decide to trade Ja Morant this summer, the Milwaukee Bucks should seriously consider trying to trade for him. And according to Abbas Bokhari of Beale St Bears, that seems very likely. The Washington Wizards took a leap at this year’s trade deadline, making a big-time move for Trae Young, and the Bucks could copy that strategy this summer, pairing Morant with Giannis Antetokounmpo (or adding him as Antetokounmpo’s successor).
Morant could be the exact type of player that the Bucks need to kickstart the next era of Milwaukee basketball. Or, if nothing else, a player for them to take a chance on as they embark on the organization’s next chapter. No matter what way you spin it, taking a chance on Morant makes sense.
And Milwaukee should seriously consider the move this summer.
Bucks should trade for Ja Morant this summer
It seems as though the Grizzlies and Morant are hurdling toward a divorce this summer. There was a ton of smoke around a trade-deadline deal, but it never came together.
Now, as the Grizzlies enter a new era, Morant doesn’t seem to be a part of their future plans. And just like the Hawks traded Young to the Wizards in order to jump-start their new-look team, the Bucks should try to do the same, landing Morant.
Should Antetokounmpo stick around in Milwaukee (which seems less and less likely by the day), then he and Morant could form a new pairing. It could be Milwaukee’s last-ditch effort to form a quality team around Antetokounmpo.
But if the Bucks decide to part ways with Antetokounmpo, then it would still make plenty of sense to trade for Morant as a new star in town, replacing the hole Antetokounmpo left.
Obviously, Morant isn’t the same caliber of player as Antetokounmpo, but the Bucks have no reason to tank, so adding Morant as a reclamation project makes sense. Plus, the name would sell tickets, should Morant stay healthy.
The Bucks don’t own any of their own picks for a long, long time. So, rather than falt-out tanking, they should look to take chances on players whose value is down.
Morant is the perfect example of that.
Based on the rumors regarding Morant’s trade value, it likely wouldn’t take too much to pry him away from a Memphis team that seemingly already wants to get rid of him.
So, as the Bucks plan out their moves for the summer, Morant should absolutely be on their radar. He could be the perfect guy for them to take a chance on.
