NBA training camp is about to begin, and plenty of free agents remain in search of their next landing spots to call home. One such player is P.J. Tucker, the bruiser who helped guide the Milwaukee Bucks to the 2021 NBA Championship. With no clear options on the table, there's no telling where Tucker will go from here.

Former Milwaukee Bucks' best days are behind him

It shouldn't be too surprising that teams aren't fighting to sign Tucker. After all, he is 40 years old and appeared in just three regular season games in 2024-25. On the court, his best days are gone, but he can still serve as a strong vocal presence, which is exactly why the New York Knicks brought him in for their late-season push. He's the type of locker room presence teams love to have.

A young team looking to take the next step could use him in that locker room, but that doesn't look like a viable option at this point.

In his prime, Tucker was a 3-and-D menace. It's exactly why the Milwaukee Bucks traded for him back in 2021 as they geared up for the NBA Playoffs. They needed a fiery, defensive-minded wing capable of taking on any matchup at any given time, and Tucker was exactly that. His presence during that title run will never be forgotten, as the Bucks certainly don't get it done without him.

His time in Milwaukee was short, but he made an impact that will last a lifetime. After his brief stint in Milwaukee, Tucker was never able to rekindle that magic (the Bucks haven't either, as they have been trying to find their next Tucker to help them do so).

Stints with Miami, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and New York have been incredibly up and down, with his role decreasing mightily compared to his days in Milwaukee.

Given his age, Tucker's next move very well may be retirement. No one is signing him to play major minutes for them. Rosters are also filling out, and with countless quality players still on the market, Tucker likely won't factor in for anyone's 14th or 15th open spots. If he does go down the route of retirement, he will hang up his shoes after a heck of a career.

Headlined by Malik Beasley, there are plenty of former Milwaukee Bucks still wandering around the free agent market, and there's no telling where any of them will end up.
