The Milwaukee Bucks will almost surely include Kyle Kuzma in any impactful move they make this trade season. One team that might play ball, based on past interest in Kuzma as reported by HoopsHype's Michael Scotto, is the Sacramento Kings. Whether the Bucks pursue a Kings player or not, involving Sacramento in some form or fashion could help orchestrate a larger move to net the needle mover they want.
Kuzma interest hints Kings could be fulcrum in Bucks' trade plans
Conveniently, a number of potential targets do in fact wear a Kings jersey. Zach LaVine, a fixture in Bucks rumors, is chief among them, but DeMar DeRozan and Malik Monk are both feasible, if less appealing candidates.
Ignoring other compensation, a one-for-one Kuzma swap would work, as far as money is concerned, for either of the latter players. Combining Kuzma and Bobby Portis could provide the basis for a LaVine package.
Whether the Bucks should make those moves is another question. Actually, they probably shouldn't. Swapping Kuzma for Monk or LaVine would sacrifice Milwaukee's only big wing without bringing in a replacement. With breakouts from Kevin Porter Jr. and Ryan Rollins, the roster doesn't need another scoring guard.
The Kings could still be involved, however, even if the Bucks don't want anyone they can offer. For example, in a multi-team trade for the Nets' Michael Porter Jr., the Kings could take on Kuzma and send a similar salary to Brooklyn (e.g., Monk). In addition to a Bucks draft pick, the Nets would also get either Portis or a hodgepodge of small salaries to meet Milwaukee's outgoing requirements.
Of course, the above scenario assumes that the Nets would not want Kuzma themselves, the simplest route to a Porter trade. Moreover, that particular trade might not appeal to all parties. Brooklyn might balk at taking on Monk's remaining three years for $60 million.
The basic structure, though, is one the Bucks could replicate in a multi-team maneuver. The target player's team may not be interested in Kuzma, otherwise, nixing a deal, but if the Kings are, Milwaukee would be able to offload him there and still get a highly paid player of interest.
With a scarcity of realistic trade targets, Sacramento is a potential partner with whom the Bucks should stay in touch. Not only are the Kings looking to sell, but Kuzma may also genuinely interest them. Even in a bounce-back year, that's not something that can be said of many, perhaps most sellers in the trade market.
