Steve Kerr, like many coaches around the NBA, would love the opportunity to draw up plays for a player like Giannis Antetokounmpo. Kerr, the leading voice for the Golden State Warriors, has been vocal about this desire in the past. In a 2022 interview with FilGoal, Kerr expressed interest in coaching the two-time MVP.
"I would love to coach Giannis," Kerr said. "He’s a great player, but he seems also like a great person."
In the coming months, the Milwaukee Bucks could look to make that a reality, but not in the way that most people think.
Bucks could look to lure multi-time champion coach to Milwaukee
It's no secret that Doc Rivers' employment as the Bucks head coach is entirely dependent on how this season ends. Bringing him back for another go-round if the team suffers another early playoff exit, or misses the postseason entirely, would be the ultimate head-scratcher. Milwaukee could be looking for a new leading voice this summer, and Kerr could fit the bill.
Kerr will be arguably the most in-demand coach this summer, given that he is set to be a free agent after the Warriors didn't extend him. While the likeliest outcome is that Golden State hands Kerr an expensive new deal before he even has a chance to talk to other teams, nothing is certain. Perhaps the Bucks could throw the kitchen sink at him if they are looking for a new leading man.
Kerr to Milwaukee could be the ultimate Giannis saga twist
For years, the Golden State Warriors have been trying to land Giannis Antetokounmpo. Even leading up to this past trade deadline, they were in the mix as a legitimate suitor, though their lack of desirable assets always made them a long shot to actually get him. They certainly plan on being among the teams in the mix to call Milwaukee once again this summer.
Yet, the Milwaukee Bucks will also do their part to keep their MVP satisfied. In addition to upgrading the roster like they often do through aggressive moves, bringing in one of the most respected and accomplished head coaches could be an interesting move. Adding Kerr could rub so much salt in Golden State's wounds if it deprives them of Giannis and takes away their Hall of Fame coach.
Both the Milwaukee Bucks and Golden State Warriors have question marks, and it won't be shocking if they cross paths at one point or another over the next several months.
