Amid all of the chaos the Milwaukee Bucks have endured this summer, it's easy to forget that they still have an open two-way slot. With training camp on the horizon, will they fill it? It appears unlikely, and it might be for a good reason. By holding off and waiting until camp is over, a new wave of players who don't make the cut could become available. On a two-way, some of them could be great additions.
Bucks could have a new set of players to evaluate soon
Across the NBA, teams are starting to sign players to camp deals—the Milwaukee Bucks just did so with John Butler Jr. Teams will evaluate those players throughout camp and the preseason, but with full-time roster spots hard to come by, it won't be surprising if a handful of them hit the market once again and are hunting for their next home before the season.
This late in the offseason, the more interesting players are already on teams. Players like Dillon Jones or Alex Toohey could be exciting two-way pickups if they were let go by the Philadelphia 76ers and Golden State Warriors, respectively. If either of them hits the market, picking them up on a two-way deal could be a low-risk, high-reward move just before the season to add some young talent.
Bucks' two-way record is solid (and they can keep it up)
The Milwaukee Bucks have had their flaws over the years, but finding two-way talent hasn't been one of them. From AJ Green to Ryan Rollins to last season's surprising breakout performer Cormac Ryan, the Bucks have identified and developed talent through this avenue. Any player they pick up next may have a legitimate shot to follow the same path.
With the Milwaukee Bucks now largely built around youth, their next pickup has an even better shot at getting into the rotation sooner rather than later. With that in mind, it would make sense for the Bucks to go after a forward. They are all good on guards. This team could use a small or power forward to give them some insurance at one of the roster's weaker points.
For now, it's all about the waiting game. If no one they like becomes available, perhaps the Bucks will drag this out even longer until they can snag a desirable target. They have no reason to rush things.
