One of Myles Turner's greatest strengths with the Indiana Pacers was scoring in the pick-and-roll, but the Milwaukee Bucks haven't quite unlocked that part of his game yet. The center has been stuck in the mud offensively to open the new season, and one way the team could look to get him going is by utilizing him more in the pick-and-roll.
Bucks need to get Myles Turner going offensively, and this may help
In 2023-24, Myles Turner finished second in the NBA in pick-and-roll points with 440, shooting 160-of-261 (61.3 percent). Last season, he wasn't as productive, but he still finished fourth with 322, going 115-of-245 (46.9 percent). Turner hasn't even cracked the top 10 this season, as he's just 7-of-17 (41.2 percent) on his pick-and-roll scoring attempts. Getting that going could be crucial.
One of the reasons Turner was so successful in the pick-and-roll in Indiana was Tyrese Haliburton, one of the game's elite facilitators. In Milwaukee, Turner has Giannis Antetokounmpo, but he's not as much of a pick-and-roll player as Haliburton. Having Kevin Porter Jr. could help, but he's currently set to miss a month after a meniscus injury. Still, there are alternatives worth exploring.
One such solution could involve working more with Ryan Rollins, Milwaukee's starting floor general. The two have been building a connection early on, as Turner is shooting 8-of-15 (53.3 percent) off passes from Rollins, but only two of those have come from inside the arc. Getting more involved in the pick-and-roll with Rollins could help Myles Turner get back on track with his scoring.
Whether it comes from the pick-and-roll, the 3-point line, which has started to trend up, or wherever else, the Milwaukee Bucks need Turner to put more points on the board. He's done an excellent job on the defensive end, but he's averaging a career low of 9.8 points per game. That's simply not enough if the Bucks want to return to contending status anytime soon.
It's still early. Turner isn't the only Buck struggling to find his footing offensively. After relocating to a new environment for the first time in his NBA career, it's not shocking that Turner is struggling to find his footing right off the bat. All he can do is continue working and looking to get it going during the games. Once he does, it could take this Milwaukee offense to the next level.
