Every single NBA team would love to get their hands on Ryan Rollins, especially at his financial figure. Speaking on the Game Theory Podcast, The Athletic's Sam Vecenie was not shy about his affinity for Milwaukee's rising guard, saying that he could be one of the hottest trade targets in the NBA if made available by the Bucks.
"We're going to eventually do the players we're most interested in this year in the NBA, like most interesting trade targets. Ryan Rollins, to me, is very high on the list because he is a very cheap contract and is very good at basketball."
Rollins would instantly be an in-demand name
Ryan Rollins is the perfect trade target. The guard, who just turned 24, is coming off his best season, averaging 17.3 points, 5.6 assists, and 1.5 steals per game while knocking down 40.8 percent of his 3-pointers. In addition to being a two-way contributor, the guard is making $4 million this season and has a player option for $4 million next season. It doesn't get any better than that.
While 29 other teams would be calling, the guard would especially make sense for contenders who might be a piece or two away. Imaging Rollins in Detroit next to Cade Cunningham. He'd be perfect, ironically, alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo in Miami. The guard's style of play would fit any single team out there seamlessly.
Unfortunately for those teams, Rollins almost certainly won't be available anytime soon.
Bucks should keep Rollins on the roster
The Milwaukee Bucks are entering a rebuild post-Giannis. Trading away a recently turned 24-year-old on one of the NBA's best contracts would be baffling, especially considering that this team doesn't have its own draft pick next season, meaning they need to push to win as many games as possible. That's far more possible with a two-way engine like Rollins on the payroll.
The only way the Bucks should entertain a Rollins offer is if they are absolutely blown away. Perhaps a team believes in him as a long-term piece and is willing to cough up the farm. Despite his value, that is the type of offer that Milwaukee could at least ponder, especially with the sheer number of guards on the payroll. Yet, it's unlikely that someone comes to the table with that realistically.
For now, the Milwaukee Bucks have no reason to panic. Rollins is on the payroll, and if the team wants to clear out the backcourt, there are plenty of other options they can move first. With the season he is poised to have—given that a massive amount of touches just opened up—the Bucks could get even more for Rollins down the line if they ever decide to move him.
