Bucks' next Ousmane Dieng-like gem could come from the same source

The Bucks did a good job of finding under-the-radar talent when they traded for Ousmane Dieng off the Thunder this season, and could do the same with another Oklahoma City player receiving little playoff action. Jared McCain only played a total of 21 minutes in OKC’s first round sweep of the Suns, but he’s chock full of talent that could break out on a team with more opportunity. He should be a marquee trade target for Milwaukee if he’s available for any reasonable price.

The Bucks would love to add Jared McCain

Even though McCain has barely played in the playoffs, the Bucks know that he’s capable of becoming a great player. In his final 30 games of the regular season after the Thunder traded for him, McCain averaged over 10 points per game in just 18 minutes per game. He did that with solid efficiency too - 46% from the field and 39% from three.

McCain hasn’t gotten a proper chance to shine yet in the NBA due to injuries and limited opportunities, but the Bucks desperately need to add more upside to their young core. And McCain had flashed the potential of being a high-level starter before, including the ability to hit threes off the dribble. He’s got a versatile offensive game that’s capable of either taking over as a primary option or complementing other players with his shooting.

His proficiency as an outside sniper also fits perfectly with the Bucks' play style. Milwaukee made the fourth-most threes in the league this season, which was one of their only saving graces in a lost year. McCain would easily thrive in a system like that with a green light to shoot any open looks.

McCain could be expandable for OKC

The Thunder just acquired McCain recently, but they might have already lost the use for him on their deep roster. Their biggest playoff strength as a team has always been their defense, and McCain doesn't provide enough on that end to solidify his spot in their rotation. But that could be the perfect news for the Bucks, who need to continue bagging young talent on cheap margins.

The success of their rebuild or retool will depend on their ability to acquire and develop unheralded young talent. Dieng was a good gamble on the Bucks' part and already paid off in a few games. He showed flashes that would have never come to light in Oklahoma City.

Regardless of the Bucks' direction this summer, Jared McCain will be an ideal fit on the team next season. Not only could he be a perfect future team cornerstone, but he can also help the team win right away as a solid rotation player.
