Chris Paul was one of the names linked to the Milwaukee Bucks in their pursuit of another point guard for this roster. However, instead, the Bucks will sign Cole Anthony, who is 15 years younger than the future Hall of Famer, once he completes his contract buyout with the Memphis Grizzlies, showing a consistent commitment to building through youth.

Youth has been a focus for the Milwaukee Bucks this summer

By swapping out Brook Lopez and Pat Connaughton for Myles Turner and Gary Harris, in addition to keeping Gary Trent Jr., Kevin Porter Jr., Jericho Sims, and Ryan Rollins, the Milwaukee Bucks made it clear that they want to be younger next season. Paul wouldn't have helped them in that regard, so it makes plenty of sense to keep the trend going by adding a 25-year-old.

While Paul certainly boasts the edge in experience and facilitating, Anthony fits better with the type of upbeat pace and athletic play Milwaukee wants to utilize next season. Whether it comes courtesy of a high-flying dunk or emphatic block, Anthony has some real athleticism in tow. At 40, that simply isn't Paul's game at this stage, and it would have made him stick out like a sore thumb in Milwaukee.

Between Porter, Rollins, and Anthony, the Milwaukee Bucks now have a three-headed monster at the point guard spot that can pass, facilitate, shoot, and do all of the little things that can have a positive impact on the basketball court. Without a doubt, the inexperience is there, but this could be a good opportunity for all of them to spread their wings and get that experience.

With an emphasis on building through youth, it will be fascinating to see Milwaukee's next transaction. While there are rumors that the Bucks have eyes on Thanasis Antetokounmpo, that shouldn't come as much of a surprise. Another young, athletic small forward could go a long way for the Bucks as they look to put the finishing touches on this retooled roster.

The odds of Paul landing in Milwaukee were always somewhat questionable. A recent report from the insider duo of Marc Stein and Jake Fischer (subscription required) highlighted that Paul was not yet considering opportunities from Eastern Conference teams too seriously to this point. Rather than waiting around for him to make a decision, Milwaukee went out and got their guy.
