The Milwaukee Bucks could go in a bunch of different directions this summer after trading Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat. At this point, especially with the new lottery odds, chasing a Zion Williamson trade wouldn’t be the worst idea. They could take a chance on revitalizing the former No. 1 overall pick’s career.
During a recent episode of The Zach Lowe show, Williamson’s rough on-court numbers with Derik Queen were discussed. The two did not play well together last year and were around a -11 together per 100 minutes. Considering how heavily the New Orleans Pelicans invested in Queen last year, they clearly see him as part of their future. Williamson? Unclear.
Milwaukee should consider using that fact as a means to try to trade for Williamson this summer, pairing him alongside the rest of its new young core.
Bucks should consider a Zion Williamson trade
The Bucks got a decent young core this summer from the Miami Heat. They landed Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kel’el Ware, Kasparas Jakucionis, and a bunch of draft capital.
However, there’s no reason they should stop right now. The Bucks might as well try to explore the market to see if there are any other trades they could make to improve their young core.
Williamson could be a very interesting option. Obviously, he’s dealt with some pretty rough health issues throughout the course of his career, but the Bucks aren’t in a position to win right now, anyway. So, why not take a chance?
Also, the Bucks don’t own any of their own picks for a long time, so they have no real reason to tank. Plus, the NBA’s new lottery odds don’t favor tanking teams, so the Bucks might as well try to improve.
The Pelicans are in a weird spot. If they want to commit to their new young pairing of Queen and Jeremiah Fears, it seems as though they could be better off exploring the trade market for Williamson.
In Milwaukee’s case, pairing Williamson alongside Herro and the rest of its new core could be fun. If Williamson can remain healthy, then the Bucks could be a decent, middle-of-the-pack team in the Eastern Conference.
The Bucks are in a position to take chances. They should be willing to swing on talent, even if that talent isn’t perfect, just like is the case with Williamson.
Trading for Williamson, who may not fit alongside Queen, could be a good idea for the Bucks to consider.
