The Milwaukee Bucks clearly believe in Brayden Burries, having drafted him 10th overall a few short days ago. However, right now, with the backcourt growing fuller, it's unclear how big a role he may see in his first season. If the Bucks truly want to get the rookie on the floor often, perhaps their next move could be a guard-centered trade to clear out room.
Bucks' backcourt is getting full fast
Milwaukee suddenly has a lot of guards. In addition to acquiring Tyler Herro and Kasparas Jakučionis in the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade, Ryan Rollins, AJ Green, Gary Harris, and Kevin Porter Jr. are set to be under contract for next season. That is a lot of competition for Milwaukee's rookie, who should be on the floor from day one next season.
It's already been reported that the Bucks are listening to Herro trade pitches, but there's a possibility they keep him. Would they field offers for Green? As an elite perimeter shooter, plenty of teams would give up strong assets to get him. Is Porter an odd man out after accepting his player option? Plenty of question marks surround Milwaukee's backcourt right now.
That goes without even mentioning Gary Trent Jr. and Cormac Ryan, who could both very well be back in town next season.
Burries needs to be in Milwaukee's immediate plans
Burries is not a project player. While young, he is the type of player who can slot in the rotation from day one next season. The Bucks invested arguably their most valuable pick of the last decade on the guard, and it's time to put him to good use. The Bucks cannot afford to let Burries rot on the bench as prior draft picks have.
Luckily for him, Burries will have a coach in Taylor Jenkins who will not forget about him, as past Milwaukee Bucks coaches may have.
To offer him a promising opportunity, something may have to give. Too much depth is never a bad thing, but Milwaukee's backcourt is starting to overflow with players who will want the basketball in their hands. As the team navigates this Giannis-less rebuild, they could look to field offers for a good chunk of the roster, especially in the backcourt.
If someone is willing to pay up for one of the guards on the trade market, perhaps that makes the decision far easier for the Bucks.
